Rape of the A. P. E.
Published in Hardcover by Buccaneer Books (December, 1991)
Author: Allen Sherman

The Bible according to Sherman
I was an 18 year old, away with friends camping in the summer of '75. About four days into the trip, we were bored of the night life in the area so we would read at night. One girl in the group had a book that she couldn't put down. The book was "The Rape of the A.P.E.". At first she read us exerpts from it, but in the end she read the entire book to us. At the end of the trip, each of us had purchased his or her own copy. In the ensuing years, I purchased, loaned out and lost 17 copies of this book. My father , a NYC policeman, lost 3 copies to coworkers. I now possess my only hard cover copy and wouldn't lend it to the Pope. It is a book about the American Sexual Revolution. Allen Sherman gives one man an elongated lifespan of 100,000 years to see where we went wrong. It is funny, educational and thought prevoking. I hope someone has the insight to put it back into print. I would be interesting to see how the author would interpet the disco scene of the seventies, AIDS , as well as things today.

Rave Review
I purchased this book when it first came out and have been touting its praises and sharing Allen Sherman's humor and knowledge of linquistics ever since. It is the best book ever and everyone should read this book at least once. Fool that I am, I loaned my hard back copy to someone and it was never returned. I hope they re-print this book, it is a classic!

Rape of the A.P.E is very educational, witty, and just fun.
I was given my first copy of this book when I was in high school. I laughed hysterically at times from some of the true stories related in it, and cried at some of the others. Mr. Sherman ranks right up there in my mind with Robert A. Heinlein in his ahead of his time thinking. If more people read this book and applied some of the principles, there would be fewer sex crimes and a happier world. It is so sad that this book is out of print-I keep loaning out the copies I can get my hands on and never getting them back. Maybe we could get Allen Sherman to update and re-publish his masterpeice?

Bobby Sherman : Still Remembering You

Authors: Bobby Sherman and Dena Hill

For all Bobby Sherman Lovers...past and present!
If you have ever loved Bobby Sherman, you have to read this book! Great insights into his life, personally, and professionally. Throughout the whole thing, I kept trying to figure out how old I was when he was going through a particular experience , and what my personal opinion was at the time in terms of the stories he tells about his life, such as, how I felt seeing him on Here Comes The Brides, or the first time I heard a hit song of his, or when I heard he got married, etc. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane, and makes me love him now even more than I did as a kid because he has really made something of his life beyond stardom in terms of his work with the L.A. Police Department.I think you'll enjoy reading it. I know I sure did! And it makes a great gift for a Bobby Sherman fan in your life.

One of the best books I've ever read about Bobby Sherman
This book was one of the very few that I couldn't put down until I finished reading it. It answered many of the questions that I had through the years of being a Bobby fan that no one else could've answered for me. Thank You Bobby and Dena for the wonderful look into your life, good times as well as bad. I've come to realize that this wonderful man that I had such a huge crush on many years ago is exactly the man I always envisioned. Kind, thoughtful, loving and a true gentleman. Nice to know that I wasn't wrong about him. Dena did an excellent job with everything Bobby gave her to work with. So nice having a little bit of the past to remember as well as having a little bit of the present to keep me updated on about Bobbys' life. Thank You Very Much.

Thanks, Bobby, for saving lives, on and off screen!
This book answered questions a lot of fans had all those years ago (are we that old?!). I think the content of this book must reflect the true nature of the person. Telling one's life story is not an easy task, but you and Dena Hill did a remarkable job. Reading this book was both fun and sad; we all have similar moments in our lives and it was nice to share yours, in a sense. Thanks for remembering your fans; we will remember you always and cherish our memories.

Shoah: Journey from the Ashes: A Personal Story of Triumph Over the Holocaust
Published in Paperback by Six Points Pr (01 December, 1999)
Authors: Leo Fettman, Annette Sherman Fettman, and Paul M. Howey
Average review score:

..searching for a book on the Holocaust..begin right here.
I just finished reading SHOAH: Journey from the Ashes.

For the past 25 years I have read an average of two Holocaust books per week. I have read good books, bad books, mediocre books, and some outstanding books. This book I would gladly recommend anyone read as it goes beyond the Holocaust and goes to humanity.

Cantor Fettman mixes in sociology, psychology, common sense, and his experiences taking him from faith to faith never with a loss for where G-d is in his life.

I am proud that Cantor Fettman was one of the 60 interviews that I conducted for the Spielberg Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation. He is a man that leaves an impact. He is a man who has made a difference.

This book is well written with just enough reference to the Holocaust to be a Holocaust book and at the same time this book becomes a primer on how to live your life.

I dare to dream for a moment thinking how this world would be if in each persons life a Cantor Fettman appeared. It is also leaves that void wondering how many Cantor Fettman's were murdered during the Holocaust.

This book should be required reading for everyone at any age and with any religion.

I would tell anyone searching for a book on the Holocaust to begin right here.

Shoah: Journey from the Ashes
In Shoah: Journey from the Ashes, Paul M. Howey and Cantor Fettman have done an in-depth historical prologue which chronicles 2,000 years of anti-Semitism. Then they have recorded Cantor Fettman's tragic Holocaust experiences (and) then they have listed current hate groups who sadly are still part of our society. This book does an excellent job of showing unless we are proactive, history will continue to repeat itself.

Shoah: Journey from the Ashes
"I have had the privilege of hearing Cantor Leo Fettman's story of Holocaust survival personally... As I read this book, I could hear his voice and see the pain in his eyes once again. ...I will recommend this book to counselors, educators, and those who seek insights in the personal impact of the Holocaust that transformed ordinary people into extraordinary survivors. ...I am grateful that Cantor Fettman worked through his own pain of remembering to bring us this great treasure!"

Sherman'S Lagoon
Published in Paperback by Andrews McMeel Publishing (October, 1997)
Author: Jim Toomey
Average review score:

What's funnier than talking marine life? Nothing!
When reading Sherman's Lagoon, I'm reminded of great comic strips like Bloom County and Calvin & Hobbes. Jim Toomey's art is magnificent and he uses it well to display the thoughts and emotions of his charaters. He will frequently use a non-verbal panel when lesser artists would have had to use words to convey meaning. He uses a wide variety of core and supporting characters that other comics cannot match in quantity or depth. This is one funny book! If you miss Bloom County and Calvin and Hobbes and currently enjoy strips like Fox Trot, I am sure Sherman's Lagoon will become a favorite. I look forward to Jim's next book. Until then I will just have to read his comic in the daily papers.

my new favorite comic book
My boyfriend gave me this book when I had chicken pox as an adult, and he said it would make me feel better. Not only was he right, but Sherman's Lagoon has become my new favorite comic strip. Outlandish but down-to-eath, the characters of Kapupu Lagoon are hillarious and charming. Sherman is the first shark I could ever relate to!

Splendid! Give us more!
I've only been a Sherman's Lagoon fan for a short while, but already it has become the only other strip besides Peanuts that I make an effort to read daily. Toomey is hilarious, and this is the best cast of characters I've seen since Bloom County. Each strip is hilarious on its own, but in addition this book has a sense of continuity often missing in collections of newspaper comics. My only quibble is that the dates are left off the strips. As a collector I like knowing exactly when something ran. But other than that, this is a superb collection.

Silence and the Soul: Awakening Inner Wisdom
Published in Paperback by Inner Harmonics Press (May, 2002)
Authors: Ellen Miller and Gary Sherman
Average review score:

A Must Read for anyone on the path of Self-discovery.
Silence and the Soul is a deeply inspiring book that takes you on the authors' personal journey into self-awareness. It is a beautiful account of a time in their lives when they chose to retreat into the Silence in order to listen to and develop a strong, life long relationship with inner wisdom. This book reminds me that the path toward spirit is a process with many steps, missteps, and seeming detours along the way. To read this book is to journey along with the authors into self-discovery and awareness.

A profound metaphysical and personal testimony
Collaboratively written by Ellen Miller and Gary Sherman (creators of the Perceptual Integration Process), Silence And The Soul: Awakening Inner Wisdom is a deeply spiritual book about traversing a journey of consciousness. Miller and Sherman cogently describe the soul-searching effects of listening to the wisdom of one's Inner Teacher, and drawing upon connections between emotional cleansing and a higher level of outreach to the world around us. Highly recommended reading for students of spirituality, Silence And The Soul is a profound metaphysical and personal testimony to the evolution of perception, both within and beyond the five senses.

Silence and the Soul
One of the most engaging books I have read in a long time. I did not have to work my way through it. In fact I had a hard time putting it down. It is amazing to me how a story could be so engaging and educational at the same time. This book has helped me and has affected my daily life in a positve way. The story is told in such a way that one never feels lectured or talked at. But there is a definite learning going on in every chapter. I highly recomend this book to anyone wishing to connect with their daily experience in a more deep and profond way.

Swept Away (The Secret of the Unicorn Queen, No 1)

Author: Josepha Sherman
Average review score:

A Wonderful Story!
The Secret of the Unicorn Queen is an enchanting and imaginitive series. I've read all of these books, and I intend to read them to my children. Much like the writings of C.S. Lewis, the authors of the books create a whole new world, full of mystical animals and colourful characters. I recommend this book to anyone who needs to dream, and dream a relality

Great book, from a great series!
I loved Secret of the Unicorn Queen as a kid, and I still love the books as an adult. Fantasy, adventure, romance: what more could a girl ask for?

LOVED IT and sadly miss it
Like everyone else who reviewed this series, I fell in love with it around 6th grade. When I was in highschool I worked at a bookstore during the holidays and gave my entire series to a woman who was frustrated over finding a gift for her 11 year old girl. The girl was so happy with the gift she wrote me a thank you letter as soon as she finished the first book. I'll never forget it, but I hope I can get a hold of the series again so my sister...and someday my daughter(s) can read them too! The series is that good!!!!!! It's a shame that science fiction for young girls isn't more popular, no offense to Nancy Drew.

A Housekeeper Is Cheaper Than a Divorce: Why You Can Afford to Hire Help and How to Get It
Published in Paperback by Life Tools Press (May, 2000)
Authors: Kathy Fitzgerald Sherman and Kathy Fitzgerald Sherman
Average review score:

Don't let your housework ruin your marriage
Please read this book if you feel overwhelmed by housework and family responsibilities. I have always believe in having a housekeeper especially if you were married and with children. A housekeeper is not a luxury but a necessity as having a car to get around town. Having help will allow you and your family (either if you are married or not) to have more time for yourself and with your loved ones. What is the point of working hard to the point of becoming exhausted if you do not have the energy to enjoy simple things in life? Don't let housework and stress ruin your marriage or any relationship you now have.

Face It: You Are Too Busy to Do Your Own Housework
This book is a management manual for evaluating whether to get household help or not, deciding what sort of help you need, hiring the help, and managing the relationship successfully. Although the subject is getting your housework done, the book is as carefully developed as any book I have read on workplace management in recent years. We need more books like this about how to get our 'home' work done!

The average woman in the United States has a full-time job requiring more than 40 hours a week of effort and a commute. Then she comes home and does another 25-35 hours of housework. Her husband (if she has one) usually does a little, but rarely anything approximating half. That kind of a work week would be banned in the first job. Why do women suffer through it at home?

Ms. Sherman does a masterful job of describing all of the reasons why people do not hire household help, and then explains why those reasons are really based in stalled thinking.

For example, most people just want to save the money. Yet, if doing the housework makes your life miserable, what good is the money? If you are a man, your wife may grow to resent your not doing the housework so much that you'll have to do 20 hours a week also . . . and have an angry wife. Angry wives are a leading cause of divorce, and that is much more expensive than household help. Ms. Sherman also goes on to aid you in thinking through how you might economize in other areas, and also increase your income. One of my favorite stories from the book is the woman who does housecleaning who hires a housekeeper to do her own home! So more people can afford housekeepers on a part-time basis than think they can.

A lot of people don't want to bring this up with their spouse. The book has some excellent suggestions for getting male cooperation and enthusiasm for adding a housekeeper.

Here is how the book is organized:

Part I -- Making the Decision to Hire a Housekeeper

1. Size of the housekeeping work and costs of not hiring it done.

2. Overcoming common misconceptions about why people avoid hiring housekeepers.

3. Create objectives for what you would use the increased time for, such as spending more time with your children and spouse.

4. Evaluate the issue like a manager would.

5. Plan what you need.

6. Calculate costs and benefits of alternative solutions.

Part II -- Hiring and Managing a Housekeeper

7. Create household systems to simplify the tasks.

8. Decide what benefits to offer the housekeeper.

9. Attracting and selecting the right person.

10. How to fulfill your legal obligations towards the government.

11. How to manage the relationship with your housekeeper.

12. Communicating with and replacing your housekeeper.

There is also an appendix with model instructions for a housekeeper, and another with recipes that are easy for a housekeeper to use. The author also offers resources on important subjects to supplement what she has in the book.

I also evaluated this book in terms of our experience with housekeepers. I think this book would have helped my wife and I realize that we needed a housekeeper sooner than we did. We probably hung on with employing nannies too long. The advice mirrors what we do with our housekeeper, and we have had a good experience. So it looks like good stuff to me.

An unexpected benefit is that the rest of the family will do more housework after you get a housekeeper. That happened in our home, too. Yes, I do more housework now, also.

After you have read this book, ask yourself where else you may have misconceptions about concerning how you spend your time. Could you get other services done for you, as well? Men might enjoy having someone shovel the snow or trim the hedges.

Considering Hiring Household Help? Youll Need This Book !!
This super 253 page, brand new book is a MUST if you think you need household help, (or even if you think you can get along without it). It'll give you all of the answers to the questions about this, to help you make an intelligent decision. You'll learn why hiring household help is no longer a luxury for the wealthy, but should be viewed as a time-management tool for busy folks. The volume is an easy read, loaded with important facts. You'll learn how to justify the cost and even how to sell the idea to your spouse !! There's a great appendix that provides a super schedule with day by day duties you can give to your helper so you can get the biggest bang for your buck. This schedule alone would take you much time and effort to prepare. There's even info on how to comply with the "nanny tax" laws. If you're just tired of complaining about your housework, and all of the daily chores that must be done, GET THIS BOOK. IT CAN REALLY HELP !!

Poodle: The Other White Meat: The Second Sherman's Lagoon Collection
Published in Paperback by Andrews McMeel Publishing (May, 1999)
Author: Jim Toomey
Average review score:

Fun for every hairless beach ape!
This second collection offers us another look at the adventures of the funniest sea-dwellers known to man. There are several hilarious storylines here, including invasion from Navy Seals, Hawthorne's adventures off-island, Fillmore's trip, once again, to Ascension Island, the gang raising a baby sea turtle they call Clayton, the return of sun-loving polar bear Thornton, Sherman and Ernest's trip to Atlantis and, of course, Sherman's attempts to impress his girlfriend Megan. This is a great work of art and writing that anyone can enjoy, not just fans. It is always funny, often hilarious, and I am proud to own it. I'm sure you would be too. Thanks for another great book, Mr. Toomey!

Another Great Sherman's Lagoon Book
Oh man! Sherman is my hero. He's a shark who's main concern in life is his next meal. Be it hairless beach-apes, poodles, or something else, Sherman, his wife Megan, and other friends in the lagoon will keep you in stiches! A must have for Sherman's Lagoon fans!

Best new comic strip in years
Jim Toomey's "Sherman's Lagoon" combines enormous wit and intelligence with hilariously funny drawings. Nobody since Walt Kelly has succeeded so well in putting human expressions on animal characters. Somehow Jim Toomey manages to fit an extraordinary panoply of human situations, common to life in contemporary America, into a very small canvas. There are only a few main characters, sea creatures in a lagoon in Micronesia, but many more pass through the strip briefly, sometimes to disappear into the maw of the great white shark, Sherman, who gives the strip its name, or his wife Megan, distinguishable from her husband only by the necklace of faux pearls around her neck. Only in Sherman's Lagoon will you find a shark wife dragging her reluctant husband to a motivational lecture; an Easter Island-type deity who when asked for advice, tells his hearers to dump their high-tech stocks; or a great white shark singing "La Bamba" at the top of his lungs while using an outhouse.

Solution Selling: Creating Buyers in Difficult Selling Markets
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Trade (01 September, 1994)
Authors: Michael T. Bosworth, Sallie Sherman, and Sam Reese
Average review score:

The Consultive Sales Bible, but only if you use it!
I own an agency for OD/HR consulting and have read HUNDREDS of books, manuals etc on selling. I am especially interested in books about selling high dollar intangibles (HR consulting is incredibly intagible). This book is by far the best book I have ever read for this type of selling. If you sell these intangibles, you must read this book.

HOWEVER, in order for these ideas to actually be effective, you must plan on implementing the ideas and putting in a lot of work. Bosworth shows you, tells you, gives you an outline, gives you specific questions and just about anything else you could need to be successful after implementing his process. But this is not a book you can simply read and be successful. It takes practice, practice, practice.

Since I have institued his process in my selling (and I STILL practice the process), my sales calls have dramatically improved. Most notibly, Bosworth shows you how to position yourself and ask questions in such a way so that the customer feels in control of the process. I actually have had prospects close themselves.

The ideas and plans in 'Solution Selling' require a great deal of hard work for the sales person to implement, but trust me, it will pay off. Not only that, if you love sales like I do, it will help sales be fun again.

Everyone wants to buy, but nobody wants to be sold.
It is often said that "people buy people" and Michale Bosworth's book "Solution Selling" explains why. Can you remember buying a big ticket item and not having to be "closed" on the deal? Well I can, and Solution Selling explains exactly how that happened. Michael Bosworth crystalizes the process that all great sales people use every day to become one of the 20% that make 80% of the sales. Once you have read this book, you will recognize "Solution Selling" techniques being used by the sales masters to effectively create relationships that close the sale. These techniques can be used to create win-win relationships in the workplace, or to make increased sales. I have benefitted greatly from reading this book and I say "Don't let this one get away without reading it!" Thanks Michael Bosworth for demystifying the sales process and letting us know why sales people are, and should be, the most highly paid people in the world.

Better Sales Practices
Bosworth sells us all on solution selling. He teaches us how to sell everything from shoes to software. IBM recommends this book as the definitive guide to their sales strategy. Bosworth provides numerous examples, case studies, and most importantly he explains and analyzes each of them. But perhaps the best example of solution selling is the book itself -- it solution-sells the concept of solution selling, from catching our attention, demonstrating that a problem exists, asking us questions, and finally prescribing a solution: solution selling. A must read for anyone in sales or business in general

Love in the Time of War : A Remembering
Published in Hardcover by Athena Press Publishing Co. (November, 2000)
Authors: Harriette S. Sherman and Abhiroopa Mathur
Average review score:

Love and Remembering
"Love in the Time of War" by Harriette S. Sherman is the intimate love story of two young people who were very much in love and of their life during the difficult years of World War II. They were newlyweds when L was drafted into the Army and the story of the life of H and L during those years is told through their letters to each other. Those letters were thier lifeline and from them their love grew stronger, as did they.

Reading this book will bring back memeories of those days to those of us who were alive at the time. More than that, it will give younger readers a view of the days of World War II as a personal reminiscense and not a recitation of the events and battles of the war. Although this book is about the life of H and L, it is typical of the story of many young couples during that time -- their joys, thier sorrows, their fears and their courage during a time of great stress and uncertainty. Perhaps it is the universal story of any young couple in the time of any war.

I look forward to reading more from this talented author.

H.S Sherman Love in the Time of War
A number of collections of letters from World War II are being published as that generation gathers up its memories. Harriette Sherman's volume of letters between her Air Force husband and herself,Love in the Time of War, is an outstanding contribution to the genre. They freely communicated their love, caring and concern for each other while describing the daily events of their lives. I read it in one sitting and returned a month later to enjoy it again. It is an uplifting and heartwarming book and a sure cure for one's self-pity and woe of the moment.

An impressive true story and a really good read
Wow! Harriette S. Sherman (H) and her loving and beloved L are amazing, impressive, inspirational people. Abruptly separated by World War II immediately after their marriage (they returned from their honeymoon to find his draft papers waiting), they wrote copious letters back and forth to support each other and to continue their relationship in the only ways they could. They saved the letters, and over 50 years later the author cleaned out their closet, pulled out the box of letters, and decided to arrange them into a book to share their story. I'm so glad she did! The letters and the bits of connecting narrative gave me eye-opening, enthralling insight into some of the personal struggles of the times. Their joint story is not just informative, it's also really good and gripping and tender, and I've loaned my copy out to friends so many times that I got some extras -- one to use as my loaner in case it ever doesn't come back, and a couple to give as gifts. Thank you, H and L, for this terrific book, and also for your steadfast services to the country through this awful war. I admire your strength and courage and perserverence and love.
